Hi Adzimin, thanks for reading and responding, glad it resonated.

To answer your questions, what I do here on Medium is, simply respond to the articles, passages and authors that really resonated with me, much like you just did. I do so authentically and not because I hope they’ll comment on mine. It’s not a strategy to gain followers or clout, however I’ve had people find my responses to be thoughtful or well written enough, that they end up following me or reading and clapping for my latest story. Honestly, I probably don’t do enough commenting on the articles I read and like on Medium — mainly because I hate Medium’s system of posting my latest comments above my posts on my profile, it’s very aggravating and counter productive.

Lastly, why I coined the term InstaGamer is because I see it happening on Instagram more than anywhere else. It’s really not a problem on this platform and for that I’m thankful. Don’t get me wrong, I get the occasional meaningless follow, comment from someone who posts a link to their own story in hopes my readers see it and click it or a tag from someone who’s clearly just trying to promote their own work. But even all three of those things are more authentic and useful than what people are doing on IG.

There’s also proper and genuine ways of going about the three things I mentioned directly above.

  • You can follow people writing about topics or for publications that interest you. The writer may not be your cup of tea but at least you’re in the ballpark
  • If a story someone reads, inspires them to write their own — there’s nothing wrong with them tagging the writer who inspired your story in the post.
  • Again, I don’t mind if people post a link to a story, that is somehow related to the one of mine they’re commenting on. However, one or two people regularly do this to me and the story doesn’t relate. People see through this, they can tell the difference.

I hope I’ve answered your questions thoroughly and best of luck to you on growing here on Medium. There’s definitely plenty of people interested in photography here on this platform to keep you interested and motivated.

Thanks again, have a great day.
