‘Hov Did

Once again paying homage to not only one of my favorite rappers, and entrepreneurs, but people I never met also.

By now, you probably heard either some of the hype surrounding Jay-Z’s verse on the recently released title track of DJ Khaled’s latest album ‘God Did’, or the verse itself.

You don’t even have to be a fan of rap to have run into some of the hype I mentioned, as late-night host Jimmy Kimmel dedicated a twelve-minute special segment to Jay’s verse on the song, its context, and its importance not to hip hop culture, but America as a whole.

The verse itself was four minutes which according to those who were there when he recorded it, he did so in one take — while Jay himself corrected them and admitted he did a little “cheating beforehand”, whatever that means.

Even if he recited it to himself all the way to the studio — recording the version that would be released in one take is quite the feat on its own. Throw in the fact he is notoriously known for not writing, add in the fact he’s 52, then listen to the verse itself — and there’s absolutely nothing you can take away from this man, nor his latest guest verse, and not the few before it either. To make things even better, he hasn’t charged for a guest verse in years — as I imagine with his wealth, he’d just feel petty…
