I’m Not Dead Yet
I’m still here.
I was recently sent an invite to my 20 year high school reunion. I’m not going, this post is not reunion based and has even less to do with high school.
The only reason I even mention the reunion is because, despite my indifference to the invitation, this post was indeed inspired by the invite, third party wise.
The page for the reunion shared a post remembering all those from my graduating class, who are no longer with us. Which is the polite way of stating, they’re dead.
To put this into proper perspective, I am 38 years old.
More than 25 people, 90 percent of whom I knew and 75 percent who I considered friends, are gone forever. They won’t be attending the reunion and quite frankly, their absence inspired my own. I simply can’t imagine a true reunion that doesn’t include them, as it would feel remiss. It’d always be, the reunion that wasn’t and simply put, would only force me to relive the deaths of so many friends I’ve lost well before what any reasonable person would consider reasonable.
It was odd to share a post from a page I have no intention of even considering attending, but even odder was the reaction my post got, compared to the page I originally shared it from. Which is to say, my post received an outpouring of reactions from high school…
