Kids Just Keep Shooting each Other And Innocent Bystanders at My Former High School

And throughout my entire city as well, actually

Roughly two weeks ago, from the time I begin to write this, a 66-year-old man was driving down Rowland Avenue, in my hometown of Philly--when a stray bullet struck him in the head, killing him almost instantly.

The stray bullet left the gun of a 21-year-old, who made his way up to Abraham Lincoln High School, after finding out his sixteen-year-old brother had been in an altercation with another kid, at the pizza place friends and I have frequented more times than I could possibly count, being it’s been a neighborhood staple practically my entire life.

Ballistics indicate a sixteen-year-old was also shot by the 21-year-old trespassing brother-- damn near critically injuring him. Yet by the grace of whatever you believe in, he just may pull through.

However, as brash and heartless as this is going to come off, whether the kid (who I truly hope makes it) lives or dies, is not the story here. There are no happy endings here, no matter how it plays out and I’ll tell you why.

There’s no good scenario in a civilized, well-populated and nationally historic city like Philadelphia, Pennsylvania — where a 16-year-old boy becomes either…
